All Things Spoken

Phrases seem to twist and bend

Some for real and some pretend

Their meanings never last too long

Say them once or twice and then they’re gone

All things spoken vanish then

And these words may not come again

Please hear my words

See that they’re true

And while they last

I’m here for you

And if I say these things to you

Will you offer them back to me too?

I know I’ve said it all before

And this time’s nothing less and nothing more

But I won’t make false promises

I’ll just allow it space for what it is

Hear what I say

See what I do

Know that I am

Devoted to you

Please hear my words

They’re nothing new

But while they last

My love is true

Just like you, I have my fears

But I haven’t felt like this in many years

We might wear the good times thin

But better that than living might-have-beens

I know the risk, you may lose or win

But these words may not come again

I know the risk, you may lose or win

But these words may not come again
